Tie Dying is a craft that is always in fashion and it is typically brightly colored, patterned textile or clothing which is made from ordinary clothing or cloth, usually cotton, through a resist dyeing process.  It is a method in which you can repurpose and update clothing to give it new life.

The basic process of tie dying has always been the same; which is to tie up the material before applying dye in such a way that the dye only reaches part of the area to which it is applied. This is done by folding, tying, stitching, crumpling the fabric and binding it with string or rubber bands so that the flow of the dye only reaches some areas. It is the way you make the folds, tying, stitching and crumpling and where the dye colors are squirted that dictates the resulting design. With experience, the end result can be a bit more predicted and controlled to a degree, but surprise is part of what makes tie-dye an exciting and interesting art form and believe me there will be plenty of surprises.

Years ago sources of dyes were roots, berries and the flowers and leaves of a variety of plants like blackberries, safflower, marigold, sage and indigo to name a few. Some of these natural dyes are actually still used today.  But thankfully there are also many manufacturers today that produce dyes that are easy to use and readily available.
