Just a Note with Duetica and KellyCraft

I love journals, notebooks and paper; I like to doodle, draw and write.  Which may be why I like to create little notebooks and journals to have on hand for unexpected gifts and such.  This little notebook was a snap to make since it was actually a purchased notebook I picked up at a dollar store where they were 3 for $1....and yes I did pick up several to have on hand. I created the saying "Just a Note" with the Mandolyn font from the Duetica Lettering System.  I printed the saying out on a piece of scrap print card stock by placing the print card stock into the corner of a white piece of card stock (where I knew it would print) with removable adhesive dot; making it easy to take off of the white card stock.  I trimmed the saying down to fit on the front of the journal, inked up the edges, used my Get-It-Straight Laser Square to perfectly align the saying, glued it on and added the rhinestones.  Created quick and easy, make several to have on hand for gifts!

Supplies:
Notebook 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"
Card Stock: White 8 1/2" x 11"
Card Stock: Print 5" x 5"
Scissor

Create saying "Just a Note" with the Duetica Lettering System and print out onto decorative card stock which has been adhered to white card stock with removable adhesive dots.
Cut saying to 3 1/4" x 3 1/2"; ink up the edges.

 Use the "Get-It-Straight" Laser Square

to align it straight onto the notebook

You can see by the photo that it is easy to get it straight with the Laser Square.
Glue in place.

Adhere rhinestone swirl to front.

Free Tie Dye eBook

FaveCrafts has just completed a brand new eBook How to Make Tie Dye Shirts, Decor, and More: 18 Tie Dye Patterns and you can download it for FREE.

FaveCrafts has teamed up with I Love to Create to create How to Make Tie Dye Shirts, Décor and More:  18 Tie Dye Patterns, a free downloadable eBook filled with 18 cool tie dye designs, tie dye techniques, and easy to follow instructions on how to make tie dye shirts, pillows, and much more.

Tie Dying is a craft that is always in fashion and it is typically brightly colored, patterned textile or clothing which is made from ordinary clothing or cloth, usually cotton, through a resist dyeing process.  It is a method in which you can repurpose and update clothing to give it new life.

The basic process of tie dying has always been the same; which is to tie up the material before applying dye in such a way that the dye only reaches part of the area to which it is applied. This is done by folding, tying, stitching, crumpling the fabric and binding it with string or rubber bands so that the flow of the dye only reaches some areas. It is the way you make the folds, tying, stitching and crumpling and where the dye colors are squirted that dictates the resulting design. With experience, the end result can be a bit more predicted and controlled to a degree, but surprise is part of what makes tie-dye an exciting and interesting art form and believe me there will be plenty of surprises.

Years ago sources of dyes were roots, berries and the flowers and leaves of a variety of plants like blackberries, safflower, marigold, sage and indigo to name a few. Some of these natural dyes are actually still used today.  But thankfully there are also many manufacturers today that produce dyes that are easy to use and readily available.

I Love to Create” makes one of the easiest dyes around and it comes in a kit to make getting started quick and easy.  So what are you waiting for grab your FREE eBook, pick up an I Love to Create tie dye kit and start tie dying, you will love it!

Create Invitations with the Duetica Lettering System

The Duetica Lettering System is the perfect solution for invitations, card making, announcements and so much more….. For my grandson’s birthday we wanted to make the invitations and the Duetica Lettering System makes it easy and fun!

With the Duetica DT Saxi font’s added ability to add color behind the letters you can create one of a kind original word art. I like how this turned out using the green behind the letters and then coordinating the green and black in the announcement by layering green and black cardstock onto white card stock with the photo…. made this quick and easy! This would look really amazing using several colors as well, something to try on another project in the very near future!

Duetica Fonts used: DT Piper and DT Saxi fonts

Back to School Craft with DCC

It is the first Monday of the month which means it is time for the Designers Crafts Connection Blog Hop and the theme this month is Back to School Crafts!

I grabbed some supplies which included: Beacon Felt Glue, Marabou Feather Boa Trim by Expo International, Fairy Dust Glitter by Clearsnap, 1" - 1 1/2" Styrofoam Brand Balls by Flora Craft, Assorted Rhinestones and Pencils.

I applied the Felt Glue to the styrofoam ball and sprinkled on the Fairy Dust Glitter to cover, then shook off the excess and let it dry.

I pushed the styrofoam ball onto the top of the pencil, removed it; applied some of the Felt Glue to the top of the pencil then placed the styrofoam ball back on; and let it dry.

I applied some rhinestones with the Felt Glue and let them dry.

I wrapped a piece of the Marabou Feather Boa around the pencil, trimmed off the excess with scissors and glued in place with the Felt Glue; then let it dry.

Then you end up with this adorable fun pencil.....

It looks so cute and everyone will want one....so make a bunch!

While what I created is definitely more girlie a boy version could be made by making the styrofoam ball into a baseball, soccer ball or use Fun Foam to create something geared for boys!

Let Velcro Decorate those Containers

I love card stock there are so many beautiful papers out there...ones that have glitter, metallics, wonderful patterns and more.....

Robin’s Nest is one manufacturer with beautiful papers.....as pictured above!

I decided to get out some of my papers and create something with them that I could use in my studio everyday.  I have a tendency to collect things and jars are no exception so I use jars to hold a lot of my supplies…I decided I would give them a facelift with some of my Robins Nest Card Stock…I simply  measured around the jars to be sure the 12″ x 12″ Card Stock would fit…

Then I cut for the height I needed…

Which I used to attach the card stock to the jar…

Then I over lapped the ends of the card stock about 1/2 of an inch and secured with the Velcro Brand Adhesive Dots

I grabbed a selection of ribbons and fibers to see what I liked to go with the paper....

I choose some fibers and tied them around the jars to finish them off and filled them with supplies….above is a picture of three of my jars….I was able to do all three with just one piece of card stock….

this was so quick and simple…so what are you waiting for; grab some of your favorite card stock and Velcro Brand Adhesive Dots and Decorate those Containers!

Crafty Couture at CHA Summer Show

I participated in the Crafty Couture Challenge at the CHA Summer Show a couple weeks ago and have to admit the entries were stunning....there were a total of 17 entries and I was honored to have my dress displayed on the show floor along with these truly amazing designers.

My entry pictured above was one of the judges picks and will be in an upcoming issue of Cloth,Paper, Scissors Magazine.  I created this dress by re-purposing magazine pages with Earth Safe Finishes Gel Medium and Shimmer Translucents. I applied Expo International Trims with Beacon Fabri Tac and since I was unsure of how it would fit on the mannequin I made the skirt a wrap around and used VELCRO® Brand sew-on fasteners at the waist so it would be easily adjustable if needed.

The other judges picks were:

 Patti Wilkenson

Jennifer Priest: this was done from book pages

 Kathy Cano-Murillo

and

Alexa Westerfield: this was done by screen printing the fabric.

Fan Favorite was:

Candy Rosenberg

Here are the rest of the amazing entries:

Eileen Hull: the bottom half was done with mat board, the top was foil that was inked and the flowers were made from soda cans and Eileen's Sizzix Dies!

Cindi Bisson: the lattice skirt is made with newspaper that was painted and all of those flowers and leafs were made from Makin's Clay.

 Carol Heppner

 Candice Windham

 Susan Weckesser

 Shannon Bielke

 Sarah Hodsdon

 Marisa Pawelko

Lorine Mason: this was hand painted

 Lindsay Obermeyer

Beth Watson: each of these petals were hand dyed and sewn onto the dress!

Like I said the entries were amazing; I am honored to be able to work among all of these talented ladies!  I truly do have the best job in the world as I live in a creative world and get to create everyday; what could be better then that!
